GBPlayer - Introduction
What is it?
A new customizable UI to the excellent Gamebase "Emulator Frontend" by James Burrows (http://www.bu22.com).
This is not MAGE. GBPlayer is a new (cosmetic) UI which still uses the same Gamebase "core backend" (ie databases, gemus scripts, folder locations etc).
Why?
I stumbled across Gamebase Amiga and ST by accident, and was very impressed by many of its features and the richness of the databases.
I saw a post from James saying that he wasn't doing any more work on it, that it was on sourceforge. With a UI update, I thought the gamebase system could go from strength to strength. That's where I started.
The only problem is that I'm a Delphi developer, not VB. So I made a few mods to the 1.1 source (made a patch dll) to make it Delphi/Com compatible and started on a new UI.
In the meantime, Gamebase 1.2 was released. The source was uploaded to sourceforge at some point later. Because of this time lag, I had to take a "code cut" of 1.1 and added the extra functions I needed. (I haven't had time to look at the code differences between 1.1 and 1.2.)
What does this do that Gamebase doesn't?
A few points are listed below :-
- Display multiple columns (screen resolution permitting)
- Displays those column in the order you specify, and you can now save you chosen columns and order.
- Highly customisable UI (including background image, colors, additional true type fonts & optional (proportional) scale reduction of screenshots/preview graphic)
- Choice of Horizontal/Vertical screenshots
- Optional "preview" graphic in game list.
- Additional list filtering (ie from the current (filtered) gamelist, you can then search for "lem%")
- New additional of "Weblook plugins"

I believe that the additonal bundled fonts/images are "free" - as they were located from the internet/public domain :-
